Can we appreciate how much was done in 20 minutes without the pace feeling rushed or it feeling like the episode went by too quickly?

I mean come on, this is some godly directing, from wrapping up Nanachi's side to the action packed sequence between Faputa to the flashbacks, everything felt comprehensive and solid within 1 single episode

Not to mention the gorgeous backgrounds, the smooth but dynamic animation, the character acting, the soundtrack, jesus christ I could go on and on jerking this show off. This is one of those rare 9/10 if not 10/10 anime

BlockHit • 1 year ago

What an absolute masterpiece. How the hell did the author manage to come up with this?

2kawaii4ya • 1 year ago

He releases 2 chapters per year so he's got a lot of time

ال الغانرز • 1 year ago

well this is the price to pay it seems , u have to wait a long time to get something unforgettable, hxh as an example

Kranesh • 1 year ago

It's not two chapters per year, it's one new chapter every 3 months (sometimes even sooner), get your facts right please.

Grape Nutz • 1 year ago

So, instead of 2 it's 4? That's practically light-speed!!

Xyrus • 1 year ago

I'm pretty sure it meant to be a joke.

Kranesh • 1 year ago

Yes, but many anime-onlis would have totally believe that.

Hiro • 1 year ago

i mean this concept... its too rare... or maybe only one of its kind... i think this masterpiece is not from earth... its made in abyss!

silentani • 1 year ago

i still remember i did follow and read the manga few years ago, and i dropped it since the update is so slow, the last chapter then was when it started ganja's flashback. and now i read until the latest chapter, only to found out the manga havent proceed far after this arc

Yeah, we're probably getting a movie in a few years at this point

g@be • 1 year ago

9/10? How very foolish sosu!
100/10! Such high Haku anime!

vovan1 • 1 year ago

Haku, sosu!

Meroko Yui • 1 year ago

Your mother's culture would often use sosu after a sentence to abbreviate. Meanwhile her mother never says sosu.

vovan1 • 1 year ago

yes, they pranked her good xD

citygrit • 1 year ago

Probably because Irumyuui wasn't someone who tried to be "graceful", especially after being cast out for being barren. It just comes from the language she spoke.

Studio Kinema Citrus saved there budget for Made In Abyss…. Unfortunately shield S2 didn’t get this Lol

Düölingöhhh Snorlax • 1 year ago

Lol shield hero is low-key trash compared to this.

ogletret . • 1 year ago

Low Key? Season 2 has been high key trash

hazerddex • 1 year ago

i did warn yall that sheild hero goes down hill in terms of writing after the first arc.

Saku • 1 year ago

Shield Hero doesnt deserve this budget lmao

Billy Bob • 1 year ago

It felt like a 1-2 hour long masterpiece well-shown in a span of 5 minutes

Don't Care • 1 year ago

Been watching anime for over 25 years.... this episode secured this anime into my top 10 greatest anime list.

ال الغانرز • 1 year ago

lmao i was just thinking the same thing that this masterpiece entered my so haku top 10 all time best with legends like aot hxh naruto berserk erased and others

Iceknight Magna • 1 year ago

Pacing in a good story is exactly what I tried to explain to Overlord III fans and Mieruko-chan fans, but some of them kept getting upset and making excuses. This anime, along with Yujo Senki and some others, prove that you can do a lot in 20mins!

Admmi • 1 year ago

yeah overlord fans can say whatever they want, but they adapt too much per season...

Iceknight Magna • 1 year ago

I will admit that season IV has been an improvement, tho.

Abby Chan • 1 year ago

I agree season IV of Overlord is keeping up good.

Admmi • 1 year ago

I mean, a bit, but still not perfect.

Iceknight Magna • 1 year ago

Yep.

Elizerwizer • 8 months ago

I am both an over lord and mieruko chan fan, overlord being the first dark anime that I watched and mieruko chan being the first actual horror one.
But made in abyss is not only both of them combined but its also much better and the first anime where all logic is correct.
But I have to ask, why do all the good anime have to be so messed up.

Iceknight Magna • 8 months ago

Thankfully, not all of them are messed up. Afterall, most Studio Ghibli movies are pretty heart warming or fun.

Saku • 1 year ago

I feel bad for anime-only Overlord fans. The LN is just unbelievably better and it's not just because of the pacing.

MeguminExplosion • 1 year ago

I agree, its a shame the author himself has this odd fascination with drawing child erotica on his twitter. But can make exceptional story.

Billy Bob • 1 year ago

There's fine line between madness and genius. Those that aren't even close don't won't appreciate how thin the line is. Sort of how manic depressives write masterpieces in their manic phase while suffering from deep depression in their depressive phase. If you can the odd phases, you won't get the genius either.

🔥SkyHigh🔥 • 1 year ago

they're just drawings at least

MeguminExplosion • 1 year ago

Totally agree, even I know the difference between fiction and reality.

Jeremiah • 1 year ago

ah so this is why there is always this underlying child erotica in this anime. It is suptle but it is very obviously there and it is the only thing that I hate about this show. This would be a 10/10 for me but I just can't give it that due to the child sexuality in it.

PLUUU-HEAASSEEE don't tell me you didn't see the subtle sucky-sucky action Faputa gave Reg, sosu. Shit is mad bonkers, sosu...

citygrit • 1 year ago

I mean, one could argue that Faputa and Reg are likely much older than they appear, but it does feel uncomfortable when even adult characters (like Vueko) look like children when they are shown in sexual situations. It really plays into the trope of "it's acceptable to sexualize this child-looking character because they're actually a super old immortal or something!" except... it still feels like borderline pedo-bait. At least it's fantasy and not real children, I guess.

bernd3 • 1 year ago

Sounds like a man of culture to me :'-)

Kusuo Saiki • 1 year ago

Definitely that.

Pineal Armstrong • 8 months ago

I guess I would disagree, i'd put season 2 of made in abyss up there with the worst anime ever made. I couldn't really find anything about season 2 that was good and certainly none of those things you mentioned I agree with the music is trash, the animation is mid, the characters all suck, the story telling is literally mid af, the pacing was actually trash as is the directing of season 2.

Darius • 8 months ago

I've been learning animation for a decade and a lot of people make the misconception that what's good and bad is subjective, but there's a very objective aspect of animation. (The subjective part being aesthetic and style) For Anime, the animation in MIA S2 is better than most (unless your standards expanded to western films) and I can rattle off every objective point about why that is if you want to have that conversation (Things like consistency, framing, smoothness, appeal, camera work etc etc)

You say, " i'd put season 2 of made in abyss up there with the worst anime ever made" but then your analysis of it is "music is trash, the animation is mid, the characters all suck, the story telling is literally mid af". Feels like your only issue with MIA is the music and that you personally dislike the characters since you're okay with the animation and storytelling, which confuses me, so what exactly is making it, "up there with the worst anime ever made"?

Personally, I like the topics they delve into and find the story twists interesting. The characters I can somewhat agree, they don't particularly stand out, but I'd say the appeal of the writing is moreso the plot/mystery behind the abyss itself. (Plus they're children so I don't expect much from the characters lol) As for music, I don't have enough knowledge to debate it, I just personally am fond of the bgx. The pacing isn't too fast or slow, it gives room for exposition but also progresses the plot, I think this episode in particular is a masterclass in directing.

Pineal Armstrong • 8 months ago

and I know what good animation is, it can't even touch the best animation form the 80's and 90's let alone the best animation that is out these days.

Pineal Armstrong • 8 months ago

you wrote all that just to be wrong lmao. Consistency sure, it was consistently bad the whole time. Framing, no. Camera work? it's anime no cameras are used genius. Animation alone doesn't even make an anime good, story is still the most important thing which this anime lacked a lot of. Pacing issues, exposition dumps, flashbacks, lack of coherency and confusion, plot holes, boring episodes, etc...it's a complete trainwreck from a story writing perspective

Darius • 8 months ago

I can't let you get away with discrediting the animation. You have absolutely no clue what you're talking about.

"Camera work? it's anime no cameras are used genius." Enough said, you have no concept of virtual cameras (Yes you do have cameras for 2d Animation and it IS widely used in the Anime industry) https://www.youtube.com/wat... Maybe spend 20 seconds fact checking before sounding off like a smart ass to someone knowledgeable in the field?

You can't even actually point out anything specific about why you think the animation is actually bad. All you've written is, "it was consistently bad the whole time. Framing, no."

https://www.animenewsnetwor... Here's the animation staff for Season 2. They have multiple animators for Animation Director, Chief Animation Director, Art Director, In-Between Check, all roles that are put in place to ensure the art is consistent and the animation flows properly on top of inbetweeners, first and second key animators. In the pipeline, there are several layers of failsafe to ensure the animation is consistent though I'm sure there's no point in me telling you this because again, you have no clue what you're talking about.

As for your remark on the best animation - no shit? It's not like this episode / or this season itself contracted many genga animators for sakuga scenes nor did it have any ambitious dreams of doing something novel with the animation (Like CSM/OPM or that one Madhouse show about trapped children), no one made any claims about it being the best. I just pointed out that the standard in every criteria of animation is better than most Anime. Take that into account with the direction, story and music, and it elevates the show to contending as one of the best Anime to come out that year.

Or what? You're gonna make a plausible argument to me that some generic isekai that follows the same plotlines everytime with a slightly changed setting - clearly under budgeted and under scheduled animation work, inconsistency and issues in their animation is somehow better than MIA S2? Cause that's 26 shows (Isekai) that came out in that year alone.
